Dear Alan,
two short points which I was able to check today. The tempo direction
at the beginning of the Wagner setting of The Two Grenadiers
is Moderato; the passage I quote is subject to the later direction
etwas schneller. I think I need some powerful editorial directive
as to how that is best deals with.
Secondly, Thibaut went to Heidelberg as a member of the law faculty
in autumn 1806. Though his teaching duties no doubt got lighter in
his last years, I can't find any evidence that he actually retired;
it looks to me as if died in harness (1840), poor old beast.
yours ever
Eric
