Dear Hayat,

(I feel there should be an apostrophe or at least a glottal stop there somewhere, a breath to symbolize life; an inspiration)

I'm having to stop work for a time, because of eyestrain, with rather alarming symptoms of firework displays in the skull. [...]

It all comes at a tiresome time, because I'm doing a TV programme on music and cipher: and my mother is alas far from well, indeed, a great worry.

And I've been sidetracked, not to say shunted, from Shakespeare back to Brahms, partly because of TV research and partly because my music publishers are much more actively encouraging than the others.

So I hope you will forgive me if I sign off soon. Not however without a word of appreciation for your insight and kindness. [...] Such sensitivity must be a great burden to you! I'm sure you bear it with pride, as your father's daughter. Personally I find my own troubles more than enough for me.

As to King Lear (c. 1589), yes, I expect so: and Famous Victories (c. 1586) too. On that I enclose the only piece (in answer to your kind request) I have in hand.

   Warmest regards and wishes

   yours Eric
